Eyes To Fly With

These are four of the dozens of images present at Graciela Iturbide's exhibit at the Centro Cultural Recoleta in Buenos Aires. From top to bottom: "Tonalá, Tehuantepec," "Angel Woman," "Our Lady of the Iguanas" and "Self-portait with the Seri."

Graciela Iturbide

Such a blissful moment it was to meet one of photography's greats, the world renowned beautiful Mexican photographer Graciela Iturbide. She was in Buenos Aires for the release of her newest book - "Ojos para Volar" - at the Centro Cultural Recoleta. Graciela was delightful and very generous with her time.

XV Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografia

I am delighted to have been able to attend this year's Encuentros Abiertos de Fotografia, an internationally acclaimed photography festival in Buenos Aires. Present were fantastic photographers from all corners of the world, including the Norwegian Bjorn Sterri, who dedicates his life to documenting his family. I had a wonderful time learning all about his passion for photography and for life. The two images included here are from his series "Memories from Water."

editing, editing, and more editing...

In preparation for "Retratados," my first solo exhibit in Brasil, which will open in late august at the Instituto da Fotografia do Ceará (The State Institute of Photography) I have been editing like a mad woman. Some believe that this is the most important part of the entire photographic process. It is in editing that we decide which of the numerous split seconds we captured to make visible to a wider audience. This image was created by my friend and fellow photographer James Wong, who was visiting me in Brasil for a few weeks.

Mercado São Sebastião

I was invited to participate in a collective project documenting this three-story market that has been operating for several decades in the outskirts of downtown Fortaleza. Here one can find produce, meats, clothing, milk products and more. Each photographer was asked to photograph the market from his/her point of view. I chose to photograph in the meat section.
