Brasilians celebrate the Festas Juninas in the month of June to honor three saints. Traditional festivities for St. John, St. Pedro and St. Anthony include "quadrilhas," which are folkloric dances involving dozens of people. This year the city organized a large quadrilha at a plaza called Praça do Ferreira, in the heart of downtown Fortaleza.

Os brasileiros celebram as Festas Juninas no mês de junho para honrar três santos. Festividades tradicionais para São João, São Pedro e Santo Antônio incluem as quadrilhas - danças que involvem dúzias de pessoas. Esse ano a cidade organizou uma grande quadrilha na Praça do Ferreira, localizada no coração do centro de Fortaleza.

At the Lagoa Azul, in Gijoca de Jericoacoara, I met this lady who creates beautiful curtains out of the little openers from aluminum cans and the plastic rings from 2-liter soda bottles. Way to re-use such abundant materials in style!

Na Lagoa Azul, em Gijoca de Jericoacoara, eu conheci esta senhora que faz belas curtinas com abridores de latinhas de alumínio e anéis de plástico de garrafas de refrigerante. Uma ótima maneira de re-utilizar materias tão abundantes com estilo!

Forget NYC high dining, my favorite restaurant in the whole world is located at the Lagoa de Tatajuba. Here the menu is displayed, not read. From today's catch I selected the lobster and the fish, which were cooked with a little butter on the grill. And don't forget the caipirinha! Life is good, it is good indeed!

Nada da alta cozinha de Nova Yorque, meu restaurante favorito no mundo todo fica na Lagoa de Tatajuba. Lá o menu não é lido e sim mostrado. Da pesca de hoje eu selecionei a lagosta e o peixe, que foram preaprados com um pouco de manteiga na churrasqueira. Tudo regado com uma caipiriha incrível! A vida é boa, é boa sim!

For US$3 I glided down the massive dune on a wooden slide, feeling the clean air on my face as my hands and feet brushed the smooth sand at several miles an hour. Then I had to climb my way back up! I did this three times and left wanting more!

Por R$5 eu desci a duna gigantesca numa tábua de madeira, sentindo o ar limpo na cara enquanto minhas mãos e pés tocavam a areia suave a vários kilômetros por hora. Depois eu tive que subir tudo! Fiz este percurso três vezes e ainda queria mais!
